To patch the gaping hole left by the absence of meaning in life, we collectively invent ways to distract ourselves. As someone with a background in advertising, I recognize this as my professional domain. But as an artist, I’m more interested in simply meditating on that hole… or poking it gently with my finger.

I recently left the agency I had been part of for 8 years. Now, I finally have the space to reflect on how amazing that time was, and how grateful I am for it. And for my readers from Europe, I will show a very cool example of a creative agency and reveal the secret of its success.

Imagine you're falling from the sky. Clouds fly by, some ducks, an airplane, various objects that you try to grab onto, but nothing works. Then, you see a forest below. You manage to grasp at the treetops, something almost works, but you keep falling. Finally, just before hitting the ground, you accidentally catch hold of a branch that saves you. From there, you slide gently down the tree trunk and land safely on a beautiful meadow.

This is how I sometimes feel when I use the “free fall” approach in creativity, which is what I want to talk about today.

I'll tell you how I didn't let go of the existential thought for five years and what my “eye-drop” sign, which I constantly draw in my paintings, has to do with it.

To confuse ourselves, we have Explanations, Expectations, and now my experience suggests that the next thing should also start with the letter “E.” What could that be?

Experience.

The more experience you have, the more comfortable you are with getting lost in it.

After creating two posts on this blog, I expect that in a week 10,000 people will start reading me, write me nice letters, invite me to podcasts and public talks. Are my expectations too high?

When you follow the path of a creative, you have a lot of ways to get confused. One of them is explanations.

Let's play a game – let's say there is a creative who is going somewhere (and accidentally leaving notes on the way). You start to follow this process and finally realize that your path is similar and at the same time completely different. This paradox will be the reward in our game.
